This is the nursery that melts my heart! But I also know it leans a little on the feminine side. Truthfully I actually didn't see that- it was said to me by salespeople at Restoration Hardware. Every time I would call to order something they would say how sweet it was for a little girl and we are having a little boy. I almost lost my cool one day because: hello the linens are blue!! My hubby was very amused that I thought the sales girl was out to spoil my plans for the perfect nursery. I did order those crib linens despite the ruffles, the horse, a camel back glider in Belgian linen and that crib but am on the look out for a dresser/changing table that has traditional and maybe a little more masculine lines. I also want to include that anthropologie pearl flourish mirror. We are picking up our glider tomorrow. It is not quite as pretty as the one in the picture as it has a little more heft to it but it was much more comfortable. For lighting I am getting this vintage art deco chandelier from my moms house that she is in the process of remodeling and this darling little sterling silver elephant lamp from pottery barn. I am still looking for artwork so if anyone has any suggestions I am open for them!

Hello. I am perhaps the worst blogger ever! I don't even have any pregnant pics of myself (isn't that what bloggers do?). I do have to say that I love being pregnant. I feel really great, however, work is getting pretty darn hard so I am super excited to start my leave but at the same time I just hate to wish away my pregnancy. We also have a pretty full plate we are getting ready to move!!! All I can say is "Yay!!!!! Space!!!" We are taking our little family and moving into my husbands childhood home. My in-laws decided they wanted to move into something smaller without a yard to care for so they found a cute place up the road and we are taking over their old house. All I can say is bless them because we were seriously outgrowing this place. But there is work that needs to be done over there and time is not something we have a lot of. We do what we can when we can which when you are in that nesting mode is enough to make one a little nuts and a little emotional. Currently the nursery has no walls (we have been peeling off wall paper to find another layer of wallpaper that was put right on to the drywall) and no floors (we have pulled up the carpet) I am hoping the painters can get started tomorrow and that the floors will be in by next week. I'm also thrilled to go shopping for new appliances. It's strange how fun changes when you are married with a baby on the way (also known as old). So that what we've been up to......

So just wondering you any other new moms (I know I'm not a technically a new mom) have the fear of awful plastic baby stuff crowding your already very crowded house? That's why I have found myself obsessing about the bloom coco stylewood bouncer. It's not cheap (around $200) but it is beautiful and functional. Also any ideas on a non eye sore highchair?
PS: Am I being crazy? Should I just accept fisher price in to my life?

So tonight I was looking for something to watch after Max went to sleep and I was horrified to discover that my beloved "Friends" has been picked up by none other than... NICK AT NIGHT!! Oh man does that make me feel old!! I thought Nick at Night was for old people! Leave it to beaver and Bewitched Etc... I mean don't get me wrong they sucked me in with the marathon but who can say no to "the one after Vegas"??

My baby Maxwell started Jr. High on Monday! I can't believe it! I know it's so cliche to say but where does time go? Max is actually going to the same school that Henry and I went to and even has some of the same teachers! All day on Monday I was sick thinking about if he was having a good day (he did by the way) other than the 95 degree classrooms! We went on Friday to find his classes and he let me take some pics of him don't fret dear readers I would not subject my offspring to the humiliation of following him around campus with other students! I'm so proud of him!!

I have been trying have restraint! Trying to remember how fast little feet grow and that this little butter bean will be born in the cold dark winter and will be spending most of his days at home but..... here some things on my love list for little boys: mustache booties by pleasantly plump knits on etsy. I died when I 1st saw these on my friend Ann's very fashionable babe! I know it's not like super in the know but all of the woodland collection at baby gap is heart melting! I love dwell studio's little polka dot footies and I ordered a couple if these little cuties! Oh and last but not least blabla dolls- Max picked a few of these for the baby @ the Children's Hour bookstore before I knew they were a blog world thing! So to all my friends with little boys need tips on where else to find cute little man things!!!

Do you watch this? Because it is a must!!! The only design show I have ever actually liked was "dress my nest" with the lovely and wonderful Thom Filicia (formerly of queer eye for the straight guy0 and when it was canceled I was ever so sad but I do believe I enjoy the bubbly and charming Emily Henderson even more! She is just cute as a button and her room designs are to die for! I usually watch design shows and am grossed out by out boring and tacky things are (design on a dime I'm talking to you!) So set your DVR's people! Saturdays on HGTV!

This week we went to our Dr and got the heartbreaking news that one of our little twins had just stopped growing. The silver lining to this very sad news is that baby A is still doing fine. It was just the most miserable thing to see the two little sacs one still and tiny and the contrast of the other moving around, growing and getting stronger. I know we are still very blessed to have one I guess I just fell in love with the idea of two so this week will be just about shifting back to one. I also feel a little embarrassed that we told everyone so early. We were just so excited but looking back it seems foolish and a little immature. I also want to thank my friends and family. I am so lucky to have the support. I know all this IVF, baby talk and now miscarriage talk has been draining on our loved ones too. So thanks for the kind words, prayers and support.... we will get through this hopefully with a healthy baby at the end of this road. xoxox

I've been meaning to post but seeing that my life consists of: going to work, throwing up and sleeping there isn't much to post about! This week has been particularly rough I have actually lost weight and wore my 'skinny' jeans today :( This not going to be a big complaint post because I am so grateful! Grateful to be pregnant, blessed that it is twins, happy in all the ways one could be for the changes that are in our future but mostly I am curious!! I can't wait to find out what I am having? I won't find out for a while longer but I think it's 2 boys!!! What do you think?

So, I am in spring cleaning mode. Majorly. I am working on my Everest: My closets. I really want to purge so we have the space to have an organized home. So my question is for you is what do you do with your clothes that you don't wear anymore? don't judge me but I can't bear to put my semi- designer (mostly Nanette Lepore & Anthropologie) clothes in garbage bags and drop them at the DI. Should I put them on ebay? Or just get over myself and donate? Help! Anyone who knows me knows I have a bit of crazy attachment to my clothes.

It's no secret that I love the Grand America hotel. I was married there. We have Thanksgiving there. I would move right in if I could especially now!! They opened "La Bonne Vie" a little patisserie serving yummy fluffy french macaroons, gelato and other yummy things. It is just the perfect place. Every inch lovely. I swore that in the new year I was going to be wise about my money and I really think I have stuck with it so far "investing" in some new clothes. These are my newest obsessions :
Anything leopard by Rebecca Taylor. The last three things I have purchased have been leopard and Rebecca Taylor. She has a way of making them soft and feminine because if done wrong leopard can look harsh and dated.

I'm also in love with black skinny jeans the Joe's visionare high waisted and Citizen Avedon in the star wash made my list of necessary wardrobe staples. On the opposite side of skinny jeans I am in love with the seven Ginger jean. I am saving my new pair for spring because wide leg and wet streets do not mix!!

But the thing on the UPS truck that really makes my heart race are the Vera Wang Lillian flat! Sadly gone are the days if sky high heels for this girl now it is only flats that seem to make the cut!

It must be coincidence that it had been exactly one month since I last logged in, looked at or even thought about this little blog BUT now that the dreaded holidays are over I can get back to my little slice of the inter web. I am very sad to report that I have zero Christmas or New Years pictures to show due to the fact that the lovely new Nikon camera that I bought for my hubby was stolen at a New Years Eve bash we attended (while in my care I might add) Don't worry since there are no pics I shall describe: I looked stunning, had on a perfect outfit and it was insanely glamorous! So we are back in the everyday (okay maybe my Christmas tree is still up) but lots of new is coming our way: new living room, Henry is going back to school, back on the baby bandwagon- meeting with our Dr at the end of the month, Max is joining his elementary school ski team and getting a new bedroom. That's the one thing that's really great about January even though usually you don't there is this sense of hope that for some reason you can just start over and do the things that would make you better or make your life better so to all the "resolution-ers" out there I wish you so much luck and joy this year!

Christmas to do list...

20 days till Christmas and there is just never enough time this time of year!! But have started my Christmas shopping so I can check that off my list! But there are few other things that I have just got to do this season.....
1. Put up my Christmas tree! I can't believe it's not up yet!
2. Drink hot chocolate by the fire and watch "the grinch" and "elf" with my family.
3. Participate in "Cookie Sweatshop". My lovely friend Carlee has a cookie decorating party that is so fun!
4. Make homemade marshmallows. Hopefully with my little brother!
5. Send Christmas cards. Last year I bought such cute ones that I never sent so this year I am mailing them (maybe)
6. I know it's a little cliche but a horse drawn carriage ride to look at the lights downtown SLC. With my Henry and Max.
7. I would love to host a gingerbread house party like this one. It probably won't happen but it's a nice thought!
8. Take some family pics that including the other loves in my life Molly and Wil.
9. Shopping with my mom and a trip to the craft store to pick ribbon to wrap up our gifts.
10. At some point schedule a pedi and massage to help cope with all this fun!

December 1st

So as per usual with me I was prepared this morning but only just barely. Max always gets an advent calendar on December 1st. We don't have a lot of traditions because growing up I guess I didn't have many but I am trying to squeeze in as much childhood as I can can with my tween! So last night while Max was meeting with his tutor I went to four different stores looking for them. Now I wish I found something like this cute little thing but I didn't I picked the same little cardboard one I get every year. Okay the mommy guilt is setting in. I guess after work I will try to find something a little more special because really I guess traditions should be special.

Since this holiday is all about giving thanks I wanted to share a few things that I am thankful for (aside from the regular mushy I am thankful for my family blah blah blah) I mean I am very thankful for my wonderful family and friends and dogs but I just wanted to post some silly, fluffy and most importantly unnecessary things that I am thankful for:

1. That the cute girls at the espresso bar know my drink! They start making it when they see me coming- so predictability has it's upside!

2. Sweet tooth fairy's Van Niela cupcakes. Moist. Sweet. Perfect.

3. Sephora and even more than Sephora- Fresh's lemon sugar scrub! Amazing on your skin during this yucky dry weather! (Thank you Alice!)

4. Uno. The card game- just saying it's a pretty good time!

5. Brazilian Blowouts. Straight shiny hair with no flat iron?! Yes please! More on this later!

Tonight I had to have a reality check with myself. I had a long stressful day. I have a new boss who I think I am going to like but who has given me some pretty high expectations. Combine that with a few other mishaps I was in a pretty bad mood then I went to vote and it was moving slow. I was actually thinking about leaving (don't judge me yet.. keep reading) when it occurred to me how lucky I am. I thought about less than 100 years ago women first earned the right to vote. I thought about what people all over the world would sacrifice to have some say in who was leading their country and here I am my biggest problem was the screaming toddler that the mother seemed immune to (somebody took their xanax) I know this post is cheesy but I was happy I could shake off being a spoiled lazy girl for a short time and show my son how important it is that you do your civic duty: read up on the candidates and vote!

Do you ever feel like if you confess something it's somehow better? Like if I were to tell you I watch EVERY "housewife" show on Bravo. Let's see that's: Orange County, Atlanta, NYC, D.C, and now possibly my new favorite way to waste an hour: Beverly Hills! Okay and just so you don't worry that my brain is going to completely turn to mush I am also catching up on my reading (I am a member of 2 book clubs- even if I don't make it to the actual club I read the books so at least 1/2 credit?) and watching breaking bad- it's so so gritty and so good!

I love 50's style. I love red lips. I love finger waves in my hair and I love Lena Hoschek. When summer starts to disappear I can't think of a better way to cheer up that by looking for beautiful fall clothes! (other than maybe cake and wine) Lena Hoschek is an Australian designer that showed at Berlin fashion week who started her own line in 2006. Her items are not yet for sale in the US but the runway and catalog images do make for lovely inspiration. Also on her website it says online shopping coming soon!

Katie's 30th

I have been neglecting my blog because I have been working so much! But one thing I've been meaning to blog about is Katie's birthday! You know birthdays are very important to me but zero birthdays are even more special so when I stumbled upon this little project I knew it would be perfect for Katie's birthday (please forgive me blog world because I can't remember where I saw the original post being that I look at about 1000 websites everyday!) So my (not really mine but I think we have established that) project went something like this:
1. get a funny/cute/mildly embarrassing photo of a loved one
2. have it blown up (we did it at Kinko's and it was about $60)
3. have all of the following supplies: spray mount, poster board, lots of pretty stamps, address labels, vellum envelopes, an exato knife and husband to use as free labor.
4. mount the photo on to the poster board
5. measure and make a grid (we wanted the photo to be in 30 pieces since it was Katie's 30th birthday)
6. cut the poster into 30 post card puzzle pieces
7. type out address labels
8. hunt down 30 friends and family members and have them write messages to the birthday girl
9. make sure everyone gets them in the mail in a timely manner
10. enjoy know your friend who loves getting cards will recieve 30 surprise letters during her birthday week and gets to put together a "postcard puzzle"
I also had the picture put on a birthday cake so that everyone that wrote a card could see what the post card puzzle looked like. So fun was had by all. Happy birthday Katie!

Today we went to the fair with my friend Tiffany and her daughter Briton. Usually I hate the fair: the noise, the um.... interesting people and fried foods but we had a really great time. Max and Briton were really cute together they just seemed to get along. Also a sheep sneezed on Maxwell and we saw pigs spooning not necessarily everyday occurrences for us.

My love for John Mayer has been called many things: funny, embarrassing, and even a birth defect (I'm looking at you guys: Ann & Meggan). So obviously I went to see my love on Tuesday when he played at Usana Amphitheatre and obviously I took a few hundred pictures however I dropped my IPhone today. It sadly shattered into about a million pieces. I also hate to inform you my little bloggerinas there was some pretty amazing/embarrassing videos that the world will never see. However, my darling hubby did snap like 3 pics so here they are in all their glory. You should know we had maybe the best time ever and our seats were pretty great. Oh also remembering how much fun it was is better than having evidence of it anyway..... right?

Skipping stones

Yesterday my little family drove up Big Cottonwood Canyon had a little picnic and the hubby taught Max and I how to skip stones. I know what you are thinking "taught you to skip stones? You are 30 years old!!!" But alas dear readers I am not much for the great outdoors. I am not designed to be outside! Have you seen how pale I am? But I digress Our picnic was delightful and the very large blue birds that joined us were also lovely company. I also have to say Mr. Fei is a heck of a stone skipper (he was a boy scout after all) and by the end of our evening little Max and I weren't too shabby!

I'm excited about my new items from designer John Derian for Target. In Stores September 5 but I am a very lucky duck because I got mine early on Gilt group's sample sale. He is famous for his use of vintage papers and prints from nature in decoupage form. They will fit right in to my home and maybe yours? There is a lot more in the collection and I will stop by my Target on the 5Th but these little lovelies HAD to be mine. Someday,perhaps, I will have to throw a shower or birthday party and my dahlia dishes may be the stars of the show, so you can see I needed 2 of each.

Don't you just love things that make your kid and his friends think you are super cool? How about if those things are really easy and don't require much effort? Me too! How fun to make personalized message cookies! I picked these up yesterday with the intent of making "happy 1st day of school" or something to that effect but my day filled up and I didn't make them while Max was at school so I waited until he went to sleep and secretly made them for his lunch. Now I know mine aren't as cute as the ones pictured but it was super late at night and I still had lunches to make. I do have big plans for these babies from Williams-Sonoma.

Today was crazy. I can't believe school starts tomorrow and my baby will be a 6th grader! We were those last minute parents getting school supplies the day before school starts! As you can see from the pic I snapped while we were getting him all ready for the morning he didn't need much but it was still a ton of work because we are so off schedule! I guess it's back to making lunches at night, ironing little shirts, bedtime, homework and carpool pick ups. I already miss lazy days at the pool and late movie nights!

I know that most of you have probably seen these beautiful penguin cloth bound classic books before. I have admired them at anthropologie and Barnes and Noble. But what a lovely surprise that Mr. Fei ordered me an assortment of them. Seriously, the UPS guy is kind of my favorite person- I mean when does that truck contain bad news? Max is kind of hard to buy for. He just doesn't get very excited about much. For the record he hardly ever asks for anything. So when my mom said she got him some butterflies from New York he was gracious but was skeptical ("I kind of think butterflies are for girls- do you Mom?") but the butterflies arrived yesterday and Max loved them.

Sunday Max

Sorry for the crappy iphone photos. Sunday was a good day for Max: brunch @ pago, caramels @ liberty heights and the few hours later a birthday party for a cousin (Max spent more time playing with the dog then his cousins). I'm glad we had a relaxing Sunday because this is (sigh) our last week of summer. We have a lot of fun to cram in this week, school clothes shopping and also the dreaded haircut!

Thanks to all my friends and family who have been so great during this hard and complicated time. Today was one of those days when you realize people you didn't know you could call on were there all along. We went to my friend Katie's baby Owens' baptism it was nice to be around some of our lovely friends in their lovely yard in the lovely sun. Max played bean bag toss and horse shoes. I looked around and thought I am lucky. My son is beautiful (at least I think so) and healthy. I like my job, am crazy about my husband and have great friends and family. Again thank you to those who have sent their love to me and to Max.

Yesterday I received the terrible news that my sons biological father died suddenly and tragically. It's awful. My heart is so sad for my baby and for his family. I am also so thankful for the friends & family that we do have. Also I am so thankful to my wonderful husband who has taken to raising Max as his own.

The Park After Dark

We spent our 24th of July at the Park Cafe with our lovely friends. There was BBQ and fireworks across the street at Liberty Park. Somehow 99% of the photos that I snapped were of Max and Emory (my friend Monica's niece) but when I look at them they are both so cute that I can see why I took so many!

Squirrel homicide

Today started out lovely: walked my dogs, lunch with Max and my baby brother and then it happened on our way to the zoo there was a big squirrel in the road and I swerved to miss him and he ran and I hit him. I feel awful. There is a pit in my stomach. I cried the rest of the way to the zoo, I told the squirrels at the zoo that I was so sorry and vowed to put a bird/ squirrel feeder in my yard. I called my hubby and told him I was a murderer and he said that it was probably just accidental manslaughter- or rodentslaughter. I'm kidding but I really feel terrible. I just hope it was quick and that it was an old squirrel and had led a full rodent life.

Yesterday was the lovely Monica Choi's Birthday and we had a tiffany themed birthday for her. My hubby took care of finding some recipes for blue drinks and he manned the bar! Max took to the loud speaker (we held the party at the park cafe) he was singing to passers by! I took care of the cake, cookies, flowers, and candy. Her cute nieces Randi and Jazmyn did the decorations and got a hummer limo (It was dippy but actually super fun- Max was so impressed) We went from the Park Cafe to the Kings of Leon concert. It's late and I'm so exhausted that I can't sleep. So instead of resting for another crazy day tomorrow I'm searching the Internet for images that inspire me and "mad men-ing" myself at amc.com. I guess I'm super boring because all I want to blog about is food, booze and TV but I swear as soon as work calms down I'm going to start being a super interesting person! Anyway there is not a show that I find more aesthetically pleasing than mad men. Even the dumpy characters are well put together ( Peggy) and Betty and Joan epitomize everything sexy they have the Jackie/ Marilyn dynamic down. Also is it just me or can we all agree that 50's-60's clothes were FAR more flattering to a woman's body. High waist lines, full skirts and well placed darts in clothing make a world of difference!

Henry and I have really tried to cut all products that test on animals out of our lives. Thank all that is good in the world that la mer doesn't! Practices such as squirting it in their little eyes, pumping products in their little bodies or forcing them to inhale sprays are just some of the things poor little bunnies have inflicted upon them! In our scientifically advanced world these tests are unnecessary for cosmetics. I know this is not an issue everyone supports and I would never want to seem like I was forcing my ideas on others BUT if you could buy cruelty free then why wouldn't you?

SO exited for August 3rd!!! The Rachel Zoe project is back sans Taylor and I hope that means more Brad!!! It's scary how much Bravo TV I watch. It's almost the only channel I watch (don't judge me I swear I'm listening to NPR in my car and not "she and him" radio on Pandora) actually, I don't care judge me if you must I rather enjoy spending my time with trashy housewives and Andy Cohen.

Saturday Farmers Market

Every summer Saturday in Pioneer park they have a small but busy farmers market. I love going and have only missed one so far this summer ( don't fret for me hubby was able to go that Sat so I still had tomato's and fluffy lovely peonies that week!) I love the atmosphere and all the fresh food. The kid playing the piano was amazing! He attached that piano to his bike and rides it down. If you haven't been you should go this Saturday and I will see you there!

My new Kate Spade bike basket! I just think it is too sweet! They are sold out online however I called my salesgirl and she found one to send to me! It's a little impractical and a tad overpriced but trust me I earned a little indulgence- I worked open to close yesterday and have to again today- oh and on Wednesday too! Then I suppose on Thursday I will go shopping for a bike suitable for my lovely basket!

Summer Cocktails

It's so hot and the week before my busiest time at work so what's a girl to do? Make myself a drink of course! My favorite adult beverage has always been San Pellegrino Orange with a little Grey Goose Le'Orange and if you haven't tried it you really should! Maybe with a bit if orange zest!? but lately my drink has been a "Ducati" (everything I like to eat and drink ends up being Italian) the recipe is:

1/4 cup blackberries
3-10 mint leaves
1 part 2 parts soda water
blackberry flavored vodka
3 tablespoons simple syrup (or to taste)

Muddle the blackberries and mint in a glass. Add soda water, vodka, simple syrup and ice. Stir and enjoy!
PS: My sister-in-law spoke of a sweet tea flavored vodka to mix with lemonade. Sounds divine!

Gelato

We got a gelato maker the other day. Gelato is Italian ice cream. It's richer and creamier than regular ice cream. Why do things taste better when you make them at home? So far we've made salted caramel from yummy bequet caramels, blackberry and stracciatella (chocolate chip). It's probably time I switch from gelato to sorbet. Gelato every night can't be a good idea?

Is is just me or are men REALLY hard to shop for? I don't know if the dad's in your life are like mine (one doesn't want anything and the other buys anything he sees) so when I saw this cute idea on Oh Happy Day blog. I was super excited-It's a super hero kit! My hubby is a total fanboy (that means comic book nerd for those of you who are not fluent in nerd speak) so the cute sayings were right up his alley I just filled up a box with Henry's favorite snacks, printed the labels and glued them on! So easy. I also ordered him some Lego Darth Vader cuff links and got him some other what nots but his favorite was Maxwell's little homemade card. It was very sweet.

Today was Maxwell's last day of school! Do you remember that feeling? It was written all over his face all week that excitement of knowing summer was coming and then today that last bell rang and it was here. I was a neighborhood kid I lived in the same place most of elementary school and summers were all about bare feet on hot cement, wearing my swimsuit everyday, ice cream trucks, bike parades and a freezer full of otter pops (btw otter pops are really gross if you have happy childhood memories of them savor them and DON'T try one as an adult-yuck!) I even had a snow cone stand. I hope Max has the same (maybe less sugar) memories of his childhood when he looks back on his life. What's your favorite childhood memory of summer?
